Students study the periodic table with a kinesthetic element!

Students get a more intimate understanding of the periodic table of elements when learning through physical activity than when relying on traditional memorization techniques alone. In kinesthetic lessons, students will identify elements they are familiar with and place beanbags printed with element information on objects or pictures of items that contain those elements. They'll come to understand the differences between solids, gasses, and liquids through their own observations and even learn about atomic number and atomic weight.

Then use gained knowledge to compete against peers in an elemental relay race! Students are divided into groups of 6 and given 18 random beanbags. The first team to place all their elements in the correct spots on the table wins! Included lesson direction is adaptable to grades K-5 and 6-12 and details setup instructions, activities by grade level, learning objectives, and teaching suggestions to expand lessons. Durable woven poly tarp periodic table mat is 39" x 74". Polyester beanbags are 2-1/2" sq and color-coded by element group. Recommended for Elementary and up.
