Young art detectives use history and chemistry to solve the mystery of original paintings and forgeries!

What determines if a painting is real or fake? This is the question students answer through a series of experiments. Working in groups of 4, detectives test for lead in paint, look for fluorescence under a UV light, and examine paint colors to conclude if they are layered or mixed. Students review works inspired by renowned artists including Monet, Van Gogh, and Pollock. Kit includes an instruction manual and supplies to test the authenticity of the paintings.
